CHALLENGE

India aims to use tourism to support the development of village and local communities in Kumarakom, Kerala.

INITIATIVE

The Responsible Tourism Mission worked with local and state organizations to achieve sustainable growth goals. The mission conducted a survey to create a strategy for tourism development by identifying unsustainable practices and creating recommendations to become a responsible destination through capacity building programmes and innovations of locally sourced products.

IMPACT

These efforts resulted in the adoption of a new strategy for developing responsible and sustainable destinations through capacity building and raising funds specifically for implementing sustainable practices.
